WOD (Workout of the day) The Lumberjack 20

by
box-jump

Hey everyone, I did this workout for the first time back in June, and to be honest, before I even tried it, I got chills down my spine just looking at it. It is called the Lumberjack 20. This workout will make you wish you had just stayed in bed that day.
“Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.”
– Mahatma Gandhi
Do you have the will power to complete the lumberjack 20?

Get a nice and thorough warm-up in before this workout (maybe a half mile jog or 50 jumping jacks with some stretches).

Lumberjack 20 (For time)

-20 weighted back extensions (10-25lbs) or deadlifts
-bike/run 400m
-20 KB swings (2pood); if you don’t have kettle bells, use a dumbbell of about the same weight (see definition below)
-bike/run 400m
-20 Overhead Squats (115lbs); do front squats if you cannot do overhead
-bike/run 400m
-20 Burpees
-bike/run 400m
-20 Pullups (Chest to Bar)
-bike/run 400m
-20 Box jumps (24″)
-bike/run 400m
-20 DB Squat Cleans (45lbs each)
-bike/run 400m

Pood: Russian form of measurement for kettle bells. 1 pood=36lbs 1.5 pood=54lbs 2 pood=36lbs

Whatever you do be sure to cool down after your workout. The cool down will:

  • Help your heart and breathing rate come down to normal levels gradually
  • Help prevent too much blood getting pooled into your larger muscles, which could make you faint or get dizzy
  • Reduce lactic acid which is what causes soreness after a  workout

Just remember to hydrate and stretch, and you should feel a lot better the next day than if you didn’t.

Feel intimidated? Just modify this workout to the best of your ability.

The very first time I did this workout, I did it in 45mins. The other day, I was able to get 34:30 mins. What time did you get?

Please post your time (if you recorded it) below and any other questions you might have about this workout.
