Deciding to go to college is a big step in anyone’s life. Getting there is half the battle. From entrance exams and prerequisite testing to student loans and scholarships, all play a key role in getting there. The other half is choosing what you want to major in and what field you want to enter into for the remainder of your life. It is a big decision for anyone and it can be very stressful. What if you make the wrong decision? What if you are not able make a decision and are torn between 2 or even 3 different majors? It can be daunting task but it is a necessary one if you want to graduate. You will not get anywhere with a degree in basic studies. Knowing a little bit about a lot of things will not get you very far but knowing a lot about one thing will take you places.

New Major: Personal Support Worker

One of the majors that has become very popular is Personal Support Worker. As a Personal Support Worker, you will be working in the medical field under a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse. It is just the beginning of what you can do in the medical field and it will get you started on the right path. For example, during the PSW course Toronto, students will work mainly with elderly patients. As a student, you will assist with providing daily care and help patients deal with the effects of aging, illness, or injury. Students will review several different topics such as abuse, mental health issues, personal hygiene, childcare, and cognitive impairment. Once students have earned their diploma through the program, they can find jobs at hospitals, home care agencies, senior citizen homes, private homes, and various other health care facilities.

Wherever you decide to go to school and whichever major you choose, always know that these are not your final decisions. You can change your mind at any time and switch to a different major. You can even change schools if you do not like the one you are attending. None of it is set in stone and you are still allowed to make mistakes. That does not mean you should take the decision lightly. However, always make the decision that you believe is right for you because you are the one who will have to live with it in the end.
