overnight chia and oats As part of my lifestyle, it is important that I can just get up and go in the morning.  Rarely do I have time to sit around and enjoy my cuppa joe and a wholesome breakfast. In the past my breakfast would consist of a piece of fruit or a breakfast bar of sorts.  Now I think we all know that one piece of fruit may not be enough to hold one over until lunch.  And I am trying to cut convenience foods so the breakfast bar is not a good daily option either.  Finally I have discovered an easy and wholesome option!

Overnight oats are so easy plus some would argue that soaking oats is actually better than cooking them.  It has so do with breaking down the phytic acid.   Phytic acid can possibly block mineral absorption.  No one wants that!  However, there seems to be some conflicting opinions on the matter.  Mainly I soak my oats for the ease of it.  Additionally, it’s great for summer mornings when you would not prefer a hot cereal.

Overnight Chia and Oats Recipe

  1. Add the oats, chia seeds, cranberries, figs, and cinnamon to a small mason jar.  Cover and shake to mix well.
  2. Open the jar and add the almond milk.  If the amount listed does not cover your ingredients, add more to cover.
  3. Pop in the refrigerator overnight or for at least 6 hours.
  4. The next morning, grab and go.  Or if you have a few moments to spare, add some toppings.  I love mine with banana, berries, cacao nibs, coconut, and a drizzle of maple syrup!

I love hot cereal but you are right. In those scorching days I want something different. I will give this a try! Thanks.
