treatment for anxiety Biofeedback treatment for anxiety can be one way to help relieve your stress. Anxiety is a primal instinct that can either be a help or a burden for people. It can lead people to perform better but it can also harm the body and lead to a decline in concentration and focus. Anxiety is a natural thing but when it exists more than it should it becomes a liability. That is why people are constantly looking for coping mechanisms for anxiety. Recently, biofeedback has shown great promise in treating anxiety. Let us show you how biofeedback can counter the ill effects of anxiety.

Biofeedback Treatment: An Overview

Biofeedback Treatment: Towards Awareness

The main aim of using biofeedback therapy is to make the anxious person aware of his psychological state. It also teaches how to sedate the mind naturally towards a relaxed state. Biofeedback means the use of the body’s response to the messages making it aware of a stressful and anxious situation. When the body becomes alerted on this situation it can move to alter these states which promote relaxation and calmness. Biofeedback uses a series of clinical techniques to make the body aware of a certain response and mobilize the mind to deal with that particular feedback.

Biofeedback Treatment: It’s All Natural

Biofeedback is one of the most natural ways to treat anxiety. It uses machines to monitor the activity of sweating and the movement of the muscles. The goal is to pinpoint the tension and to make the body respond to it. The result is a calmer muscle that can ease out anxiety levels and make the mind and body calmer.

Biofeedback Treatment: Locating the tension

Biofeedback starts by identifying the muscle groups that are tensed due to the state of anxiety. When anxiety levels soar it causes some muscle groups to tense thus creating pain and discomfort. Alleviating the tense muscle is one way to promote calmness and eventually lead to relaxation. Once the affected muscle group is found another relaxation technique is employed to help the muscles relax. This can alter the psychological changes that often happen during times of distress.

Biofeedback Treatment: Training is Needed

To make biofeedback effective it requires a lot of training. The patient uses several relaxation techniques like the basic deep breathing technique. This will aid the body to remove the tension that has mounted in the muscle group as a result of an anxious situation. Feedback comes in the form of sensory perception but it can also be visual or auditory. In some cases, two sensory modes are used.

Biofeedback Treatment: Monitoring Feedback

This is often used to alleviate back pain, anxiety disorders and incontinence. Measuring the skin temperature can even alleviate tension headache. Electrodermal activity measures the amount of sweating which is great in anxiety disorders. Heart rate variability records heart rate which is helpful to detect anxiety, lung disease and irregular heartbeat.

Biofeedback does not aim to replace any anxiety medication or treatment. It is supposed to enhance normal therapies. Using biofeedback can improve the quality of life by first making it relatively free from anxiety and stress. Patients can be assured that there would be less panic symptoms by using biofeedback.

Biofeedback is great. I have 2years experience with neurofeedback with my kids. Check out my website for “If you have ADD, Can you fly a plane with your brain?” I believe it will become more popular. I just finished a University class on ADD/ADHD and the professor said “A new and upcoming therapy that seems very promising” and I thought– We did that back in 2002!
The affects of the mind controlling the body is far beyond what most people think it can be, but it’s true, You can control…. YOU!
